Sarah Low DVM

Sarah Low is a veterinarian with a passion for improving and promoting equine welfare.  Prior to receiving her DVM from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015, she graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003 and spent several years working in the film and television industry as well as training horses as teaching riding lessons. In 2006 she spent time in Hawaii trapping feral horses on a large cattle ranch and developed a special interest in wild and feral horse behavior and welfare.  This experience was the catalyst for pursuing a doctorate in veterinary medicine.  

After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Low completed a research training fellowship at the Equine Behavior Lab at University of Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center.  During this fellowship Dr. Low designed and implemented an equine handling welfare audit system for use at BLM wild horse and burro adoptions.  Dr. Low owns and trains two mustangs purchased from the BLM at an adoption in Lexington, VA.  Please view Dr. Low’s video page for more information on the gentling and training of Max and Red, her two mustangs.  

Dr. Low’s desire to improve wild horse welfare has recently led her to cofound a 501c3 nonprofit organization called Humane Horse Handling.  Please visit humanehorsehandling.org for more information.
